Strong believer in open-source software. Many packages have gotten very mature over time and rarely put you in the position of beta tester.
Closed source projects are usually under time & budget constraints that force products onto users before they are truly ready, or sometimes even complete.
Google is famous for labeling software as beta, even after years of use and thousands of users.
An extreme case of this is the game industry where games are being released before all the levels are complete or the multiplayer infrastructure is in place.
Still open-source software needs to be adopted with care to assure you adopt packages with a strong user community and active development.
